Clinical decision support for cross-covering physicians
Cover patients you've never met - with clarity, not guesswork.
Whether it's a patient message in clinic or a weekend on the wards, CrossCover AI reads the chart before you do - and hands you one clear, verified summary of what matters most.
Every physician knows the feeling - needing to make a good decision about a patient, with not enough time to know them.
In the clinic
Patient messages come in all day - refill requests, symptom questions, follow-up concerns. Often from patients your partner saw last week, not you. You either spend five minutes digging through the chart to respond well, or you respond fast and hope you did not miss anything.
In the hospital
Weekend cross-coverage, night float, holiday shifts. You walk in responsible for patients you've never met, and the chart is the only way to know them. Under time pressure, critical details get buried - and missed details are how handoff errors happen.
CrossCover AI solves both.
Use cases
One platform. Two flavors.
Same principle: no physician should have to dig through a chart under pressure.
Outpatient pilot
CrossCover for Clinics
For outpatient practices handling patient messages across a covering team.
When a patient message lands in your inbox - portal message, refill request, symptom question, follow-up concern - CrossCover AI has already read the chart. The moment you open the message, you see the patient's history, medications, recent labs, active issues, and the context of what they're asking.
And CrossCover AI doesn't stop there. It connects to evidence-based clinical sources to suggest appropriate next steps, and - just as importantly - it surfaces what's been missed. An abnormal lab value nobody followed up on. A colonoscopy that's overdue. A screening or preventive measure that slipped through the cracks. The kind of details that get lost in the shuffle of a busy practice, now brought to the surface the moment you open a patient's message.
And to save you the extra step, we prepare a suggested response to the patient - grounded in their chart, ready for you to review, edit, and send.
Every message, pre-briefed
Refills, symptoms, follow-ups, portal messages - every incoming patient message opens with the full context already summarized.
Evidence-based next steps
CrossCover AI suggests clinically-informed next steps, drawing on current evidence-based guidelines and the patient's specific history - so you're never starting from zero.
Catches what got missed
Overdue screenings, abnormal labs never followed up, gaps in chronic disease management - surfaced proactively, so nothing slips through.
Pre-drafted patient responses
A response message is drafted in the patient's language, grounded in their chart. You review, edit, and send in seconds.
Mobile-first secure messagingcoming soon
Urgent messages can push securely to your phone - open, review the AI-summarized context, and respond on the go without opening a laptop.
A patient messages your clinic: "I've been on metformin for two months and my stomach is still upset. Should I stop taking it?"
The message opens with: her A1C trend over the last year, her current metformin dose, notes from her last visit where GI side effects were discussed, and her weight history.
Her LDL from three months ago was 168 mg/dL and no statin was started. She's 52 and has no record of a screening colonoscopy. Her last eye exam was 14 months ago - overdue for a diabetic patient.
Based on her message, it suggests three possible next steps for the GI complaint, pre-drafts a warm response to the patient, and surfaces the care gaps so you can address them in the same encounter.
Primary care practices, direct care clinics, virtual-first practices, and any multi-physician group where covering each other's patients is a daily reality.
Inpatient roadmap
CrossCover for Hospitals
For cross-covering physicians on the wards - weekends, night float, holiday shifts.
When you arrive for a cross-coverage shift, you select the patients you're now responsible for and run CrossCover AI on your list. Within moments, every patient opens with a clear, structured summary - active issues, recent changes, medications, pending results, things to watch. When a nurse calls, when you walk into morning rounds, when anything comes up - you're not starting with a blank slate. And the full chart is always one click away if you want to verify or go deeper.
Your list, your control
You select the patients you're covering and run CrossCover AI on your list. No automated reads, no unnecessary access - only the patients you're genuinely caring for.
What's changed, highlighted
New admissions, new orders, new labs, new meds, new consults - anything that happened recently is called out clearly.
Red flags surfaced
Abnormal labs, medication changes, vital trends worth a second look, recent clinical deterioration - all flagged automatically within the summary.
Chart access, one click away
Summaries are a starting point, never a substitute. The underlying chart is always right there when you want to verify or go deeper.
It's Saturday morning. You're covering 14 patients you've never met.
You open your patient list in the EHR, select the patients assigned to you, and run CrossCover AI. Within moments, each patient has a summary card: active problems, recent changes since admission, what specialists have said, what meds were started or changed, what labs are pending, what to watch for today.
When the nurse calls about Bed 3's blood pressure, you already know who Bed 3 is - their baseline, their meds, what happened yesterday. You're making an informed decision, not a best guess.
Hospitalists, weekend/night cross-coverage teams, locum physicians, and any inpatient group where physicians regularly cover patients they did not admit.
Workflow
How CrossCover AI works
Same engine. Two workflows. Both live inside the tools you already use.
01
Connects to your EHR
CrossCover AI integrates securely with your EHR. No manual uploads, no new workflows, no switching between apps. We read the data you already have.
02
Reads when you need it
In the clinic, CrossCover AI runs automatically when a patient message arrives - so context is there the moment you open the message. On the wards, you select the patients you're covering and run CrossCover AI on your list - physician-initiated, for only the patients you're genuinely caring for.
03
Ready in the tools you already use
In the clinic: every patient message opens pre-briefed with context, care gaps, suggested next steps, and a pre-drafted response. On the wards: your selected patients open with clear summaries - active issues, recent changes, what to watch. No new apps, no new workflows. Everything happens inside your EHR.
You stay in control. Every summary is a starting point, not an answer. You review, adjust, and decide.
Trust
Built for healthcare reality
A summary is only useful if you can trust it. Here's how we've built CrossCover AI to earn that trust.
Physician-first, by design
CrossCover AI helps you decide. It doesn't decide for you. Every summary is a tool for a physician's judgment - not a substitute for it.
Multi-layer verification
We built CrossCover AI with multiple checks to make sure every summary accurately reflects the chart - not an AI best guess. The methodology is the subject of a filed USPTO provisional patent.
HIPAA-compliant infrastructure
Business Associate Agreements are in place across every vendor in our pipeline - cloud, EHR, AI model provider, and contracted developers.
Traceable, every time
Every line in every summary can be traced back to the exact chart entry it came from. Nothing is conjured. If you want to see the source, it's one click away.
About
Founded by a practicing physician.
CrossCover AI was founded by Lilit Margaryan, MD - a double board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine. The idea came directly from the experience of covering patients she'd never met - in clinic messaging and on inpatient shifts - and the frustration that, in 2026, we're still flipping through charts under pressure when the technology exists to do better.
We're a small, focused team currently in private pilot development. Our clinic-facing version is our first pilot. The hospital version is on our roadmap. Our only north star is that CrossCover AI has to be useful, safe, and trustworthy for the physicians who depend on it. CrossCover AI is not yet available to the public.
